Santa Cruz Shakespeare is now accepting video auditions for their 2024 season, which includes As You Like It and Hamlet by William Shakespeare, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, and A Christmas Carol adapted from Charles Dickens.

 

Contract dates for the summer repertory season:

As You Like It and Hamlet: June 11 - September 1, 2024

The Importance of Being Earnest: June 11 - September 8, 2024

The Glass Menagerie: June 11 - September 29, 2024

 

Contract dates for the winter season:

A Christmas Carol: November 5 - December 24, 2024

 

To accept a contract, you must be available for all dates associated with that contract.

Please record two contrasting pieces, under two minutes in length, at least one of them Shakespeare, and upload them to either YouTube or Vimeo as a single video. A brief slate is welcome, but not necessary.

Send an email to auditions@santacruzshakespeare.org with a link to your video and your headshot & resume attached. Additionally, please copy and paste the below questions with your answers into the body of your email:

• Are you a member of Actors’ Equity?
• If you’re a student, are you also interested in the intern program?
• Do you have local housing? (within 50 miles of Santa Cruz, CA)
• Are you a singer?
• Do you play an instrument?

Video deadline is February 1, 2024

 

In person audition will take place in Santa Cruz on Saturday, January 13, 9 - 5pm (lunch 1 - 2pm) at the Veterans Memorial Building, 846 Front St, in Downtown Santa Cruz. No appointments necessary; first come, first serve. Artistic Director, Charles Pasternak, will be in the room.

In person auditions will take place in Los Angeles on Friday, January 19, 9 - 5pm (1 - 2pm lunch) at the Actors Equity Building, 5636 Tujunga Ave, in North Hollywood. Appointments can be made by union members via Actors' Equity; walk-ins welcome. Artistic Director, Charles Pasternak, will be in the room.

Most of the 2024 season is cast; seeking actors for potential replacements and future consideration. As of this posting, roles currently available:

• The Dukes in As You Like It
• Orlando in As You Like It
• Celia in As You Like It (non-equity)
• Lady Bracknell in Importance of Being Earnest
• Gwendolyn in Importance of Being Earnest (non-equity)
• Most, if not all roles, will double in Hamlet
