AUDITIONS

Virtual submissions for the 2027 season are now open.

Virtual submissions for the 2027 season are now open. The summer season will include The Comedy of Errors, Hay Fever, Next to Normal, and Julius Caesar. The fall season will include Red and Mary’s Wedding. A more detailed breakdown with the roles that may be available will be posted here in October. General submission instructions:

  • Please record two season-appropriate pieces, at least one of them Shakespeare (yes, both can be Shakespeare) under three minutes total. (Shorter is better, this is plenty of time.)
  • A slate is welcome but not necessary.
  • Please begin with your Shakespeare piece.
  • If you would like to include some singing, please end with it.
  • Please upload as a single video to YouTube (just Youtube).
  • Please email auditions@santacruzshakespeare.org with your audition link, please attach an updated headshot and resume, and please answer the following questions:

    1. Do you have access to local housing in the area of Santa Cruz, CA?
    2. Can you have reliable transportation in the area of Santa Cruz, CA?
    3. Do you have a driver’s license?
    4. Where are you based?
    5. Are you a member of Actors’ Equity?

A note on our professional apprenticeship

If you are currently earning an undergraduate degree, your submission will be considered for an apprentice track. If you recently graduated or are currently earning a masters degree, please let us know if you’re open to an apprentice track.

Apprentices earn CA minimum wage (currently $16.90 / hour in Santa Cruz). Housing is provided if needed / transportation is not. Apprentices play supporting roles in two of the summer mainstage shows, they participate in master classes, they may do some teaching artist work, and they are featured in mainstage readings near the end of the summer season.

Thank you for your interest in Santa Cruz Shakespeare. Break legs!
